Lib Dems call for 3 new stations across the city
Leeds Liberal Democrats want this Council to demonstrate that it is as interested in the needs of the humble commuter as much as it is interested in the inter-city business traveller
Our amendment, as in previous years, calls for a feasibility study to deliver new stations at Methley, and Woodside Quarry, and this year adds Marsh Lane as a station worthy of Renaissance.
All the new stations mentioned would serve to relieve pressure on nearby stations on what are the most congested rail routes in the city. We appreciate that new stations won’t solve the problem of congested routes in themselves, with extra carriages and longer platforms both pertinent issues that also need addressed. However, these new station proposals enjoy significant popular support in the communities around them, who currently feel aggrieved that their aspirations never get a mention from Civic Leaders whose only ambition seems to be the arrival of HS2 services to the city. A commitment to our proposal would go some way to demonstrating that this is not the case.
