Linda McAvan MEP to Speak at Public Meeting on Brexit in Leeds this Saturday

November 23, 2017 9:24 AM

Leeds for Europe are holding a public meeting in the main council chamber of Leeds Civic Hall this Saturday (3pm). Entitled 'Brexit: How Will It Impact Education, Research and Innovation in Leeds?', the meeting will hear from a number of speakers, including Yorkshire and The Humber MEP, Linda McAvan, who will give her views on the current state of Brexit negotiations.

Founding member of Scientists for EU, Dr Mike Galsworthy will share his expertise on the implications of Brexit on research collaboration across Europe and on the ability for the UK to continue to play a leading role in developments in science, engineering and technology.

They will be joined by Felix Milbank, President and founder of Students for the EU.

The meeting will include an opportunity for audience members to ask questions. Admission is free, but tickets need to be booked in advance via the Eventbrite website.

Event organiser Richard Wilson commented: "Leeds is a great university city, so we are acutely aware of the risks that Brexit poses to our prosperity. We need to maintain the international collaboration, freedom of movement and economic strength to continue to support the research and innovation which are vital to our future. All of these are being put in grave peril by Brexit. We need to understand the implications before taking a leap into the unknown. It is not too late to stop Brexit if it is not in the national interest and if it risks causing irreparable damage to our city's reputation as a centre of learning and innovation."
