Anti-Brexit Group to Hold Protest and Public Meeting in Leeds on 16 September

September 13, 2017 6:32 AM

Leeds-based anti-Brexit campaigners are holding their first Stop Brexit 'Day of Action' in the city centre this Saturday, 16 September 2017.

The series of events will commence at 1pm with a rally in Dortmund Square. The rally will be addressed by speakers including Richard Corbett, Labour MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber, and Professor Emmy Van Deurzen, Vice Chair of New Europeans - a pan-European pro-EU campaign organisation.

The rally will also provide an opportunity to hear from the people behind a new book "In Limbo: Brexit Testimonies from EU citizens in the UK" - a moving & powerful collection of true human stories about the real impact of Brexit.

Musical entertainment will be provided by renowned anti-Brexit protest singer Madeleina Kay.

The rally will be followed by a 'Brexit Question Time' public meeting at 3pm in Leeds Town Hall. Richard Corbett and Emmy Van Deurzen will be joined on the panel by Leeds businessman and solicitor, Damian Kelly, as well as Dr Alan Carling of the University of Bradford as they face questions from the audience. The meeting is open to all and admission is free, but pre-booking is advised as space is limited. Free tickets can be reserved via the Eventbrite website.

To complete the day's activities, campaigners will have the opportunity to debate and discuss all things Brexit in an informal social at a Leeds venue.

Event organiser Richard Wilson commented: "As each day passes it becomes clearer that Brexit will be a disaster for Britain. Our government does not know what it wants and is leading the country into instability and chaos. It is not too late to stop Brexit. We are calling on Yorkshire's MPs to stand up for the people of Yorkshire by rejecting any Brexit deal which is worse than the arrangement we currently have, and by refusing under any circumstances to allow us to leave the EU without a deal."
