Derelict Queensway garages to get a green makeover.

March 22, 2017 6:37 PM

Lib Dem Councillor Stewart Golton has welcomed the news that the garages on Queensway, off Haigh Road, once demolished, are to be replaced by a communal green space that can be enjoyed by all residents.

After years as a local eyesore, demolition has started and work should be finished on the new communal green area by the summer.

Cllr Stewart Golton (Lib Dem, Rothwell) commented: "The garages have remained largely unused for some time now and the area has turned increasingly derelict, becoming a magnet for graffiti and fly-tipping.

"Residents had asked me time and again if the council could do something to sort it out. A major concern was that children playing in the area could be exposed to asbestos.

"I'm pleased that we have been able to secure not only the demolition, but also the landscaping required to turn this into an asset for local residents."
