Ashfield’s 20mph zone welcomed

March 15, 2017 6:35 PM

Lib Dem councillors Colin Campbell, Ryk Downes and Sandy Lay (Lib Dem Otley and Yeadon) have welcomed news that the design work on the creation of a residential 20mph zone for the Ashfield area of Otley is about to start.

The zone will include all streets between Newall Carr Road and the border with North Yorkshire and by including Ashfield School it will make the roads safer for children and residents alike.

Cllr Ryk Downes (Lib Dem, Otley and Yeadon) said: "I'm very pleased that the council is now introducing a 20mph zone in the Ashfield area. We have called for this scheme for many years now, and when we canvassed the area residents came out strongly in support so it can only be good news that they are now looking at the proposal seriously.

Cllr Sandy Lay (Lib Dem, Otley and Yeadon) said: "This is the final piece of the Otley jigsaw and yet it is the most challenging area with regards speeds, buses and compliance. Enforced properly, this will really help the area become far safer.

Cllr Colin Campbell (Lib Dem, Otley and Yeadon) said: "It is very welcome news that this scheme is finally being discussed. Now that the conversation has started, we'd like to see it up and running as soon as possible."
