Locations found for new variable message signs

December 13, 2016 7:43 PM

Lib Dem councillors Sandy Lay, Ryk Downes and Colin Campbell have welcomed the news that locations have now been found for the two variable message signs they secured from Leeds City Council earlier this year.

Variable message signs provide drivers with clear, concise information about local events and incidents without compromising on the safety of their journey.

The signs will be sited on the A660, one heading into Otley just before Bradford Road, and the other just south of the Otley bypass. Work on the signs will start in March 2017.

Cllr Sandy Lay (Lib Dem, Otley and Yeadon) said:

"After working with the council's highways department, we think we have found the best locations for the new signs. They will be perfectly placed to let people know about issues and events that they may need to take into consideration as they drive.

Cllr Ryk Downes, (Lib Dem, Otley and Yeadon) said:

"With the large number of events we host in Otley, these signs will be a great boost for local businesses, with the events advertised to the wider community."

Cllr Colin Campbell, (Lib Dem, Otley and Yeadon) added:

"There shouldn't be any disruption to motorists as the work is carried out, and we look forward to seeing them up and running early next year."
