Housing repairs scheme planned in East Leeds12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 12th May 2010 At next week's Executive Board (19th May), the council is set to give the go-ahead to a major housing repairs scheme which will benefit East Leeds. £1.891m will be used to repair housing in the Copperfields / St Hilda's area of Cross Green. The repairs will extend the life of 45 properties (mostly back to back terraces) by 30 years as well as giving apprenticeship opportunities to local young people. Cllr Richard Brett (Lib Dem, Burmantofts and Richmond Hill) said: "This spending is vital for the development and regeneration of Cross Green. This money will not just help to extend the life of these properties and improve the quality of life of residents but it will help to improve the area as a whole. "The scheme will also help young local unemployed people wherever possible and hopefully send them on their way to a new career. Similar projects have supported opportunities for bricklayers, joiners, roofers and scaffolders."
