Ebor Gardens Community Centre is set to receive a new lease of life following councillors approving works totalling more than £40,000.

Works will include extensive roof repairs, renewing electrical fittings, window repairs, internal and external painting as well as fitting new windows and clearing paths and paving outside.

The three ward councillors for Burmantofts and Richmond Hill have agreed to pool funding the council provides in order to see the well used centre improved.

The funding comes from the council's Ward Based Initiative, providing councillors with an amount of money to be spent within their wards. Much of the work at Ebor Gardens Community Centre will go towards improving its energy efficiency, which is another aim of the funding.

Councillor David Hollingsworth (Lib Dem, Burmantofts and Richmond Hill) said:

"We have been wanting to improve Ebor Gardens for quite a while. It is a well used centre that forms a central part of the community.

"Hopefully officers can start to get on with the work quickly. I'm looking forward to seeing the centre given a new lease of life."
