The major refurbishment of Windmill youth club has now been completed at a total cost of £142,000.

The spending of this money has secured the future of the very well attended youth club which is also the home of Rothwell Judo Club. Ward councillors have been involved for the last five years in securing this funding.

The refurbishment included a well overdue repair of the roof, a complete overhaul of the heating system and a new disabled ramp to the front of the building. New windows, a re-paint inside and out, new electrics and new toilets have completely transformed the building.

Councillor Don Wilson (Lib Dem, Rothwell) said:

"The building was built originally in 1870 for £800. Now after the refurbishment the building is sound and in as good a condition as at any time in the last 50 years.

"Now that the building has been brought up to such a high standard we hope that the new facilities will be used and respected by the young people of Rothwell."
