Mary, Mary how does your garden grow?12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 2nd Jul 2009 Pupils at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Primary School in Moortown have just established a school garden and after school gardening club. The school has built an allotment style garden so pupils can grow their own fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers. A suitable habitat to encourage wildlife into the garden is also being established. They asked for help to fund the project and Moortown councillors responded by granting the school £1000 to get them started. The money has been used to provide a garden shed, wheelbarrow, two fruit trees and three flower beds for the new garden. Cllr Richard Harker (Lib Dem, Moortown) Executive Member for Learning said: "Gardening is a great skill and we were pleased to help the school. We had access to some funds which we wanted to spend on environmental projects and we thought the schools plans were very impressive". Notes to editors The club will be for children in years 2-6 (7-11 years old) in the catchment area of the school.
