Litter and dog fouling to be tackled in Otley

12.00.00am GMT Mon 9th Mar 2009

Otley will host an environmental action day on the 28th March. This is one of four days which are set to take place in North West Leeds all of which are to be funded by the North West (Outer) Area Committee.

Environmental action officers, dog wardens and parking attendants will be uniformed and providing a high visibility presence on the day. The team will be issuing fixed penalty notices for littering, dog fouling and commercial waste. Parking tickets will also be issued for illegal parking. The main aim will be to educate the public about their responsibilities to the local environment, namely in terms of littering and dog fouling.

The team will be able to assess the impact a busy Friday night has on the area's environment and see if any additional steps can be taken.

Cllr Colin Campbell (Lib Dem, Otley and Yeadon) said:

"As local members we get a number of complaints about anti-social actions at the weekend. Normally the environment action teams do not work on Saturdays but we have, via the area committee, agreed to fund a one off action day in Otley.

"We hope this will send a message that things like illegal parking and littering will not be tolerated."
