Councillors support student services12.00.00am GMT Wed 15th Oct 2008 Local Liberal Democrat councillors have given Leeds University Union's Nightline much needed funds to help support the service. Designed to offer students confidential listening and information services, the phone line, available throughout the day, provides an essential lifeline to many who are in need of support. Councillors in Burmantofts and Richmond Hill and Weetwood have all recognised the excellent work of the service. Cllr Ben Chastney (Lib Dem, Weetwood), a former student of Leeds University thought the service definitely qualified for council funding. "As a former student I know how stressful it can be dealing with various problems, from exams to finances and housing. The Nightline service is a vital part of the student support network and offers a highly valued service. As a councillor I am pleased to be able to offer whatever assistance I can and sincerely hope the phone line will continue to support those in need." Cllr David Hollingsworth (Lib Dem, Burmantofts and Richmond Hill) also offered his support. "As councillors it is important we identify schemes that are worthy of our support. With the difficult financial circumstances we all now find ourselves in, with students feeling the pinch as much as anyone else, a service like Nightline can offer practical information for those in need."
