LGHS Public Meeting reaffirms objection to building on playing pitches

At a packed public meeting on Thursday night, over 100 members of the public confirmed their opposition to plans to build on playing pitches on the Leeds Girls' High School site. The school was also roundly criticised for failing to send representatives to the meeting to talk about their proposals.

At the meeting, organised by the Leeds Girls' High School Action Group and addressed by Greg Mulholland MP, members of the public spoke passionately about the need to retain the maximum amount of green space in an area of Leeds which has relatively few large open spaces.

Cllr Martin Hamilton (Lib Dem, Headingley), who chaired the meeting, commented:

"Local residents made it clear that they value their green spaces and want to see them retained for future generations. The planning applications submitted simply fail to do this."

Cllr James Monaghan (Lib Dem, Headingley) added:

"I was disappointed that Leeds Girls' High School chose not to attend the meeting. They need to hear what residents think about these proposals."

A further public meeting is planned which the school will once again be invited to attend.
