Work underway on new toilet block at Yeadon Tarn.

2.17.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 17th Jun 2008

Works done so far include new picnic tables, signage and new surfaces to the car park and pathway as well as improvements to the banks and nesting areas. The final piece of work in the scheme will see the BMX track upgraded.

Councillor Ryk Downes (Lib Dem, Otley and Yeadon) explains…

"As part of the improvement works at Yeadon Tarn it became very clear that the old toilet block was in desperate need of modernization, in fact several residents contacted us to request new toilet facilities. My fellow councillors Colin Campbell and Graham Kirkland and I met with Leeds City Council Leisure Service managers and requested that modern toilets were built for use by visitors to the popular Tarnfield Park. At the time there was insufficient money in the budget, but we continued to press to make money available, and we were delighted when our funding bid was successful.

"As works on the Tarn near completion I'm very pleased with the how it is turning out and many residents have commented just how good the Tarn is now looking. The Tarn is really important to Yeadon so I am delighted that this investment will help really improve it and make it even more popular with residents and visitors alike."
