Following the recent cyclone in Bangladesh and its devastating results, Deputy Lord Mayor Cllr Reverend Alan Taylor has welcomed the decision by council leaders to donate £10k immediately to the appeal.

Councillor Reverend Alan Taylor (Lib Dem, Gipton & Harehills) said:

"On behalf of the people in Leeds I'd like to express my sympathy to those who have lost loved ones in the disaster as well as to those whose homes and livelihoods have been destroyed as a result of the cyclone.

"Urgent action and immediate support is required, otherwise, disease and malnutrition could claim many more victims.

"The lead that the city has taken is much appreciated. It is hoped that the council's donation will in some way ease the suffering of those affected by the cyclone. I would urge every citizen to support the aid effort that is being co-ordinated by many charities."
