Six figure revamp for Rothwell town centre12.00.00am GMT Mon 29th Jan 2007 Rothwell Councillor Steve Smith has welcomed news of a six-figure revamp of Marsh Street Car Park. Work on the scheme starts next month and will cost £400k. The scheme heralds the start of a major make-over of Rothwell town centre. Other projects in the pipeline include the renovation of the former Coach and Horses pub on the main street and a major new Morrison's store and more shops which will nearly double trading space in the town centre. Councillor Steve Smith (Lib Dem, Rothwell) said, "This scheme is the first of a number of major projects planned for Rothwell town centre. Marsh Street has been in need of a make-over for quite sometime now. I'm delighted that the ball is now rolling on this. "The council has carried out an extensive consultation with regards the future of the town centre and the response from residents was for improvements to parking facilities, better shop frontages and more signs showing key locations in the town. The council has taken on board all these concerns and we are making real investments to give the people what they asked for. These are exciting times for Rothwell." Notes to the Editor: 1.The scheme will see the whole car park re-laid to improve its appearance, improve traffic flow and provide a more even road surface. 2.Work on the scheme will be completed by the summer 2007. 3.Throughout the construction period the car park will remain open except for those sections where the improvement work is being done. 4.The work will be funded by the council's Town and District Regeneration Fund and managed by the council's Area Management Team.
