EASEL Project Takes Further Step

EASEL, the partnership project billed as the largest ever investment in South and East Leeds has taken a step closer to 'narrowing the gap' as Council chiefs enter into talks with preferred bidder Bellway Homes.

Councillor Alan Taylor (Lib Dem Gipton & Harehills) Chair of Inner East Area Committee said "This latest development is excellent news. Now EASEL can really begin to take shape. The potential for the project is quite staggering. Gipton and Harehills has cried out for sustained regeneration for years and now we are finally seeing the wheels being put in motion for a major initiative to combat deprivation. Its still early days but this is a enormous step forward. "

Councillor David Hollingsworth (Lib Dem, Burmantofts & Richmond Hill) added "Residents in neglected estates such as the Torre's and Rookwood's will benefit immensely from the EASEL project. Whilst we have to ensure we consult with those people set to benefit and allay any fears they may have there is no denying that this project will be a massive boost for an area that has so far missed out on the Leeds boom."
