9000 bulbs were planted last week by the newly formed Friends of East End Park. They had help from pupils from 4 local schools that each sent a group of students to the Park for the planting. All Saints C of E Primary and Mount St Mary's Primary both planted daffodils whilst Richmond Hill Primary and Victoria Primary planted crocuses under the watchful eye of Parks Ranger, Steve Joul. The school children helped to plant 6,500 bulbs in two hours. A second session saw the Friends group put in further 2,500 daffodils.

Councillor David Hollingsworth (Lib Dem, Burmantofts & Richmond Hill) said "We hope children at each of the schools who came will keep a special eye on the patch they helped to plant out. This should make East End Park more colourful next spring."

Councillor Richard Brett (Lib Dem, Burmantofts & Richmond Hill) added "We are really grateful for the help provided by the school children. It was nice to see the younger members of our community get their hands dirty for the sake of their local environment."

Councillor Ralph Pryke (Lib Dem, Burmantofts & Richmond Hill) commented "This is just the start of a whole series of improvements to East End Park which should see new seats and waste bins, new trees, new rose gardens and most important improved security. All this is being done before March 2006."
