Warm Welcome for Warden9.24.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 27th May 2005 Local Lib Dem Councillors Penny Ewens, Linda Rhodes - Clayton and Kabeer Hussain have extended a warm welcome to Paul King, the new Neighbourhood Warden for Little London and Woodhouse. Paul has been a Neighbourhood Warden for 4 years and took up his new post at his request after a secondment from Leeds North West Homes found him in Little London. Returning to his old patch, Paul is to be based at 15 Holborn Court, Woodhouse. Councillor Penny Ewens (Lib Dem, Hyde Park & Woodhouse) said, "Paul's addition to area is a huge boost. Neighbourhood Warden's provide a vital service to both the local community and their colleagues in the Police. Councillor Rhodes - Clayton (Lib Dem, Hyde Park & Woodhouse) commented, "Officers such as Neighbourhood Wardens who are assigned to a specific community are a very effective way of tackling local crime problems." Councillor Kabeer Hussain (Lib Dem, Hyde Park & Woodhouse) added, "This is great news, we will look forward to working closely with Paul in the future." • Neighbourhood Wardens work in communities to reduce crime and fear of crime, deter anti-social behaviour and care for the environment. Patrolling the streets is a major part of their work and they act as extra eyes and ears for the police and local authorities. Their role varies depending where they work but can include - reporting environmental and housing repairs, visiting vulnerable residents and supporting Neighbourhood Watch groups.
