Cllr Announces Road Makeover

8.14.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 16th May 2005

Lib Dem Cllr Ryk Downes (Otley & Yeadon) has revealed that following the concerns of local residents he requested Council chiefs include a dilapidated road in this years Highways Repair Programme. Carlton Lane (East Carlton) will now undergo a programme of machine laid patching to repair the roads neglected surface. Highways Maintenance are also to attend to any other 'dangers to public safety' as identified in a site visit by Leeds City Council Officers.

Councillor Ryk Downes said " This is great news. Local residents have been expressing concerns about Carlton Lane for some time now. I am pleased to announce that the Highways Department has committed itself to repairing the road in the coming months in order to make it safer and less hazardous for road users."

No specific date has been set for the forthcoming repairs though it has been confirmed that it will be within the coming financial year. An announcement (specifying the dates) will be made by Leeds City Council's Highways Department in the next two weeks.

The site will be given to an external surfacing contractor shortly and will involve a road closure. Once the contractor has been able to programme these works, the Highways Department will apply for an official Road Closure. This will take approximately six weeks, notification of the closure will be in the press and highlighted upon "on site" notification boards.
