Otley's Lib Dem councillors have hailed the work of a club that's helping to promote the town's thriving pub scene
Cllr Ryk Downes, (Lib Dem Otley and Yeadon) Cllr Colin Campbell (Lib Dem Otley and Yeadon) and Cllr Graham Kirkland (Lib Dem, Otley and Yeadon) have given £600 in Money for Investment in the Community and Environment (MICE) funds to the Otley Pub Club to help them create an interesting and informative website, which the club hopes to encourage people to visit the town for a tipple.
Otley Pub Club gives its members a great opportunity to take a tour of all the brilliant pubs of Otley -over thirty in total. With its new website up and running, it enables all to catch a glimpse of what Otley has to offer. Members receive weekly emails on current pub events, like the Beer Festival, Folk Festival, Victorian Fayre and Otley Carnival. Links to Facebook and Twitter help members to keep up to date with events in Otley.
The website has attracted a lot of interest in the Pub Club, which boasts a current membership of approximately 270. These members come from countries around the world, and include many tourists who visit Otley on their holidays to the UK. The website also acts as an online forum for those interested in Otley's accommodation facilities and real ale pubs.
Sponsored by Centurius, the website also acts as a platform for businesses to advertise with a company logo and link to their own websites, which also helps local businesses to thrive. Each Otley pub also has its own page where its business is promoted, providing information on ales served, food and facilities available.
Otley Pubs also raise money for local charities and have so far raised £150.00. The Pub Club hope that their website will continue to grow, thanks to donations, and its growing membership.
Cllr Ryk Downes Said:
"The Otley Pub Club is a refreshing and creative way of getting all local residents and newcomers to embrace and appreciate the town's great traditional and modern pubs. The website has been a huge success amongst many, and it is great to see such commitment to keeping the traditions of Otley alive"
