A councillor has called on receivers to work with the council to deliver a city centre park on the site of the failed Lumiere project.
Councillor Martin Hamilton (Lib Dem, Headingley) wants a temporary city centre park established at the site on Wellington Street.
He suggests the administrators of Lumiere could follow the example set by MEPC when they laid out grassed areas, football pitches and seating at Wellington Place. The area is now well used and MEPC have announced they are to re-start developments nearby.
Councillor Hamilton said:
"Obviously it is a shame that Lumiere never got off the ground. However we now have an opportunity to do something good with a site that has stood derelict for years.
"The temporary park at Wellington Place has proved a great hit. If the council and private developers could do something similar it would spruce up that area of the city.
"If people are interested in such a concept I suggest you get in touch with your local councillor or the media. Lets put the pressure on to get some more green space in Leeds."
