Otley councillors have given a helping hand to local scouts hoping to attend the world jamboree in Sweden next year.
Three members of the Otley All Saints Parish Church explorer scout pack hope to visit the event which next year arrives in Sweden having last been held in Chelms-ford four years ago. Members of the scouting movement from all over the world will enjoy camping, learning about the natural world and making new friends from across the globe.
Councillors Ryk Downes, Graham Kirkland and Colin Campbell (Lib Dem, Otley and Yeadon) are helping out with a donation of £300 from their MICE money - devolved council funding for individual councillors to spend on projects they think will benefit their local area.
Councillor Campbell said:
"I was contacted by the mother of one of the scouts who told me about this fantastic opportunity for three of our local youngsters.
"They're already working hard organising a great big fundraising effort but they've only got until Christmas to raise most of the money so we decided to help out with a donation from our MICE budget.
"The jamboree will no doubt be an amazing event where they'll learn loads so I wish Rebecca, Shannon and Joshua the best of luck with raising the rest of the money."
