New and improved housing for people with learning disabilities is finally set to be unveiled in Rothwell next month.
Cllr Steve Smith (Lib Dem, Rothwell), who lives close to the site on Holmsley Green in Woodlesford, has been a keen supporter of the plans from the outset. After many months of waiting he is now keen to see the finished result at the official opening on the eighth of September.
The previous 27 bed hostel for adults with learning difficulties was no longer fit for purpose and a re-provision of the supported services was long overdue, having first been suggested in 2000. The new, modern accommodation is specifically designed to promote independent living.
Cllr Steve Smith (Lib Dem, Rothwell) said:
"This is fantastic news for residents. New accommodation is much needed and long overdue. I can't wait to see what promises to be a very impressive development.
"The new supported housing will promote independent living, while still allowing residents to receive essential support services - and to remain active in the local community.
"As someone who lives close to the site, when local people tell me the residents have always been great neighbours, I also know that is absolutely true!"
