A decision to give the green light to vital building work at a primary school in Hyde Park and Woodhouse has been welcomed by Councillor Penny Ewens.
Rosebank Primary School on Burley Road is set to see work start on two new classrooms in August this year. The £150,000 project will give the growing school community much needed extra space.
Rosebank Primary school is located in one of a number of areas in Leeds that have a rising population. The combination of this growth and the increasing popularity of Burley Park Children's Centre, which is also based at the school, has resulted in additional demand for reception places.
Councillor Ewens is a long time supporter of the "fantastic staff and children" at Rosebank Primary. She is currently working with a cluster of schools in the area, including Rosebank Primary and City of Leeds High School, to develop proposals for a co-operative trust, which she hopes will meet the long term educational needs of children in the area.
Cllr Ewens said:
"This funding will make a vital difference to the school community by giving the hard working staff and pupils at Rosebank Primary much needed extra space.
"Population growth is a very real challenge for many areas of Leeds. It is essential that the city has a robust plan to deal with the impact of that change at both primary and secondary school levels.
"For that reason I am currently working closely with a cluster of schools including Rosebank and City of Leeds to develop proposals to try and secure the long term future of inner city education."
