Cllr Wilson with Rothwell artist Len Alderson, who painted the coat of arms
A commissioned depiction of the Rothwell coat of arms is now on display at Black-burn hall.
Residents and councillors alike are excited about a new piece art on display at Blackburn Hall in Rothwell. The piece is by local artist Leonard Alderson, and depicts a boar's head beneath the white rose of Yorkshire.
The boar is of particular historical importance to Rothwell as it is believed that the last wild boar in England was killed in the Rothwell region by John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster.
Councillor Don Wilson (Liberal Democrat, Rothwell) was heavily involved in the commis-sioning of the piece, even going so far as to pay for the artists' materials out of his own pocket.
Cllr Wilson said:
"I hope that Mr. Alderson's excellent piece will become a real hallmark for Rothwell. Hav-ing the coat of arms on display will help reinforce local community spirit and serve as a reminder of local history.
"This has been a very worthwhile project and I hope the coat of arms will be on display for many years to come."
