Liberal Democrat Group Choose New Leader for 2010/11

At its Annual Meeting last night the Liberal Democrat Group elected Cllr Stewart Golton (Rothwell) as its Leader for 2010/11. Cllr Golton replaces Cllr Richard Brett as Leader. The Group also elected a new Deputy Leader, Cllr Ryk Downes (Otley & Yeadon) who takes on the position held by Cllr Golton last year.
Cllr Stewart Golton said "Richard Brett has led us with great commitment over the past three years, I am very grateful to the Group for offering me the opportunity to take up the baton and lead us to greater success in the future."
Cllr Ryk Downes said "Richard Brett has done a great job over the past few years and I look forward to working with Stewart Golton."
Cllr Richard Brett added "I'd like to congratulate Stewart on his election as Group Leader. I will work closely with him to make sure that he can take on his new role as smoothly as possible."
