Councillor confirms continued funding for elderly services in Leeds

March 30, 2010 12:00 AM

Leeds City Council are to launch an inquiry into commissioning of support services for the elderly.

The current commissioning process for neighbourhood networks has opened up a potential threat to five neighbourhood network organisations in Leeds.

It was announced this morning (30th March 2010) on BBC Radio Leeds that the Director of Adult Services Sandi Keene has withdrawn the decision and has commissioned an independent review into the whole process.

It is hoped that the review will be finished in time for a decision to be made by Executive Board in July. The council has assured the parties concerned that funding to all neighbourhood network groups remains the same until further notice.

Joint Leader of Leeds City Council Councillor Richard Brett said:

"The commissioning process is not about cuts and the council will be spending more not less as a result. The key feature around any change to our neighbourhood network groups must be that there is no serious dislocation to any of the services provided for vulnerable older people."
