Inaugural Woodlesford PACT meeting a success

March 25, 2010 12:00 AM

The inaugural Woodlesford Partners and Communities Together (PACT) meeting was held at Holmsley House in Woodlesford last week (17th March 2010).

Organised by the Rothwell Neighbourhood Policing Team the meeting was arranged as a finale to the Operation Champion clean up scheme in the area. Although the meeting was only arranged with a couple of days notice, the turn out was very positive with over 30 local residents attending. Cllr Stewart Golton was also in attendance as well as Tony Charles from Aire Valley Homes. This is the first meeting of its kind for Woodlesford.

The meeting, chaired by Sgt Paul Denison gave residents the opportunity to discuss police, council and housing issues. The major local policing priority at present is to tackle nuisance motorcycles and quad bikes on the football fields at the rear of Temple Lawn on weekend afternoons and evenings.

The issues raised were:-

Youths playing football up until 10pm on Green Lea

Parking issues on Aberford Road

Parking issues at school times outside local Primary Schools

The next meeting will take place again at Holmsley House at 6:30pm on Wednesday 21st April 2010. At this meeting residents will take further steps to set up a residents and tenants association as well as getting an update on the issues raised at the previous meeting.

Cllr Stewart Golton (Lib Dem, Rothwell) said:

"The police should be commended for their work at the grass roots level. Following on from the success of Operation Champion they have committed to working with local residents through these meetings. Woodlesford residents now have a place where they can discuss police, council and housing issues.

"I was very impressed with the turnout and I hope more people will attend the next meeting."

Sgt Denison said:

"The turnout to this meeting at short notice was tremendous and it shows how passionately the residents feel about their area. I hope that it will continue to thrive as a forum for the community and that the relationship between the police and the Oulton and Woodlesford residents will flourish."
