Work has begun this week to build a long awaited pedestrian crossing on the Clarendon Road - Woodhouse Lane junction.
A signalised pedestrian crossing will be introduced as part of a wider road improvement scheme in the area. A further crossing is being constructed nearby on the Clarendon Road - Woodsley Road junction. this will be a toucan crossing suitable for pedestrians and cyclists to cross. The new crossings will greatly benefit local residents and students on a busy and congested part of Leeds. The news has been welcomed by ward councillor Penny Ewens.
Cllr Ewens (Lib Dem, Hyde Park and Woodhouse) said:
"I have been campaigning for a crossing at this location for four years. The area is extremely congested with cars, is on a bus route and is busy with pedestrians going to and from the universities. The new crossings will make an amazing difference, greatly improving safety.
"Getting work underway this week on the Claredon Road crossing is excellent news. The extra toucan crossing is a bonus and we hope work will be completed within six weeks."
