Over the last few weeks there has been a number of fish deaths reported at Yeadon tarn.
Leeds City Council's environmental health team reported the issue to the Environment Agency who are now conducting an investigation.
The investigation includes water sampling and removing some fish from the tarn for examination.
It is possible that there is insufficient oxygen in the water, following a sudden increase in temperature from extremely cold conditions that saw the tarn frozen and that this has caused the deaths of the fish. However, the investigation is still on-going and users of the tarn have been informed.
Cllr Ryk Downes (Lib Dem, Otley and Yeadon) said:
"Our environmental health team is working with the environment agency who are investigating the problem. I'm concerned about the fish deaths and hope the cause can be found soon.
"Once the cause has been found we will look to resolve the problem and replenish the stock of fish lost."
