Gipton Square in East Leeds has become the first of the 22 playgrounds to be opened around Leeds as a result of the multi million pound playbuilder project.
Children and local residents told council officers their ideas and explained how they wanted the playground to look and have seen their ideas come to life. Work was completed last month and now children are enjoying the new equipment which includes new swings, a climbing frame, slides and new seats.
£25,000 of Playbuilder funding and £20,000 from the east inner area committee was used to pay for the project.
Cllr Alan Taylor (Lib Dem, Gipton and Harehills) said:
"This is a great new space for Gipton children, which I'm sure will be extremely popular now the worst of the winter weather is behind us. Parents now have somewhere their children can play safely and I'm delighted that all the work has been completed so quickly.
"The ideas that the children and young people had all those months ago have now come to life."
