Families in Horsforth will be asked for their views on proposals to change the structure of primary school provision from 2011.
Education Leeds has proposed to turn two local schools into all age primary schools for children between the ages of five and 11 years old. Currently children start school at Featherbank Infant School age five and at age seven go on to Newlaithes Junior school.
The proposed changes will provide 30 new reception places from September 2011.
Leeds City Council's executive board has agreed for a consultation on the proposals to take place. If given the go ahead, the plans will remove separate infant and junior provision in the town.
A further consultation on the proposed expansion of Horsforth West End Primary School will also take place at the same time.
Cllr Brian Cleasby (Lib Dem, Horsforth) said:
"Our schools are oversubscribed and there is an urgent need to extend them to accommodate Horsforth's existing children. I therefore welcome this consultation and hope that plans go ahead.
"Parents are making me aware of their concerns that schools may become overly large. It is therefore important that they get involved with this consultation and make their views known."
