The world class Rothwell Temperance brass band are set to receive an extra £10,265 funding thanks to help from local councillors.
The money which has come from the H.J Banks Ltd Moss Carr open cast mine site was identified by councillors. The brass band were then chosen to receive the cash, this will be used to buy four new instruments.
The band scored an amazing fourth place result at the 2009 national brass band championships at the Albert Hall in London where they competed with top bands from around the world.
Cllr Stewart Golton (Lib Dem, Rothwell) said:
"Rothwell temperance are one of the best brass bands in the world. They are a credit to Rothwell and we are so proud of what they have achieved."
Cllr Don Wilson (Lib Dem, Rothwell) said:
"We recommended the band for funding as we thought it would be a wonderful boost for them after their fantastic fourth place at the Albert Hall."
