Cllr Ryk Downes (Lib Dem, Otley and Yeadon) has welcomed the news of a conservation study for Yeadon.
Earlier this week the North West Outer Area Committee pledged £8,000 towards a conservation area review for Yeadon. The area was last reviewed over 35 years ago.
The work will involve conservation professionals working with local ward councillors and members of the community. By bringing plans up to date it will allow Leeds City Council to make better informed decisions on development matters.
All the proposals will be subject to a public consultation, allowing individuals interested to voice their views.
Speaking of the commitment Cllr Downes said:
"I am really pleased that we have been able to commit these funds for such an important study. The plans for Yeadon were so out of date we needed to do something to address the issue.
"Whilst such studies may seem quite routine they are actually really important. They will form the basis of a great deal of developments in the local area. Peoples' involvement now will help shape Yeadon's long term future."
