Derelict land between Skelton Lane and Victoria Primary School is to be brought back into use thanks to Osmondthorpe Allotment Association and local councillors.
Leeds City Council's East Inner Area Committee is providing £2,000 to help allotment holders transform the site. The money will be used to help clear undergrowth, brambles and small trees on the land as well as create paths and boundaries for between 10 and 12 half plots. There are 10 prospective tenants waiting for plots in this area at present.
A track will be made for small vehicles and pedestrians to allow access to the paths and the laying of crushed recycle materials such as tarmac shavings. We will be provided to more plots by extending the current water piped supply to six taps.
Cllr Hollingsworth (Lib Dem, Burmantofts and Richmond Hill) said:
"This is a great project, there is a big demand for allotments and these plots will give people a taste of the good life.
"The allotment association are doing a lot of the work themselves, so we are getting fantastic value out of the £2,000 grant."
