Headingley residents are celebrating after a long campaigned-for pedestrian crossing was completed at the Grove Lane-Grove Road junction.
The crossing was requested by a local resident with the backing of ward councillors.
Grove Lane is an extremely busy road as it is a major link road to Leeds from surrounding areas. This will provide a safe place for children to cross from the local Shire Oaks primary school as well as a crossing point for people going to St Albans Church, Wheatfields Hospice, local shops and Grove Lane nursery.
Cllr Martin Hamilton (Lib Dem, Headingley) said:
"We requested this crossing sometime ago but we have had some problems getting the location of the crossing right. It's a busy stretch of road and with it being used by school children, people going to the local church, nursery and shops so it will provide peace of mind to residents in the area."
