Cllr Richard Brett (Lib Dem, Burmantofts and Richmond Hill), Joint Leader of Leeds City Council, will be awarding certificates to visually impaired children who have produced artwork as part of a project for International Day of the Disabled this afternoon (3rd December).
Cllr Brett will say "This project is an excellent example of how different council departments can work creatively and effectively in partnership. This project and the resulting artwork would not have been possible without a number of different teams coming together to develop links which will hopefully continue long after this project. The Equality Team of Leeds, the Education Leeds Visually Impaired Team and Leeds Museums and Galleries have worked together for the first time with the results you see here today.
"I'd like to thank community artists Seagulls, who came up with the initial concept and who have worked with the children for the past 2 days to produce this artwork so successfully.
"Most importantly I would like to thank the children who have come from across Leeds to work on this fantastic art installation for the past 2 days. All of the children involved here today had to apply to take part of this project to demonstrate their enthusiasm and commitment which is truly remarkable. They have all worked extremely hard and now I take great pleasure in giving each of them a certificate in recognition of this achievement."
