Leeds City Council's executive board has approved the investment of £7million as part of the ongoing EASEL housing development project in East Leeds.
A new investment scheme from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has enabled development to be brought forward at two sites in Gipton.
The executive board approved investment of just over £7 million to build 63 properties on Easterly Mount and St Wilfred's Avenue. The properties will be a mixture of two and three bedroom houses and two bedroom flats. The new homes are scheduled to be built by March 2011.
Councillor Revd Alan Taylor (Lib Dem, Gipton and Harehills) said:
"This is fantastic news for local people in Gipton.
"These additional houses will make an important contribution to the ever-increasing demand for social housing in the area.
"The planned developments Easterly Mount and St Wilfred's Avenue demonstrate the council's commitment towards social housing in these difficult times."
