Leeds City Council today paid tribute to Leeds Rhinos' record breaking Super League success.
A motion passed at today's (18th November) full council meeting congratulated the Rhinos on their record third Super League championship in a row and wished them luck in their bid to win the World Club Challenge.
Cllr Steve Smith (Lib Dem, Rothwell) is a Rhinos season ticket holder and proposed the motion. He said:
"To win three championships in a row really is an astonishing achievement and is unprecedented in the game's history. It's a terrific boost for sport in Leeds.
"The Rhinos have truly done Leeds proud. I feel it's only right that the council marks on the record our admiration for the team and I'm delighted that my colleagues felt the same and voted for the motion.
"The icing on the cake would be if they could go one better than last year and beat the Melbourne Storm in the World Club Challenge. My colleagues and I wish them all the best when this takes place at Elland Road in February."
