A major refurbishment to Wharfemeadows play area in Otley looks set to be agreed soon.
Planning permission is required for a large two storey play structure as well as major works which will see the much used but somewhat out-of-date play area re-vitalized.
Liberal Democrat Councillors Colin Campbell, Ryk Downes and Graham Kirkland have welcomed the news.
Cllr Colin Campbell said:
"Ward members have been pressing for this for some time.
"The current area is heavily used and some of the equipment is looking a little tired. Following a series of meetings with Parks Officers the new scheme has been drawn up. Because it is so large it needs planning permission but I do not see that as being a problem."
Clr Ryk Downes added:
"The work which we hope will start during the winter will see a dramatic improvement in the quality of the play area.
"We are happy that we have persuaded the Council to invest in an Otley project which will benefit the young."
Cllr Graham Kirkland said:
"We have also identified funds to refurbish some of the existing equipment which will then be resited in other parts of Otley so this scheme will benefit children in all areas of Otley."
