Otley Day Centre is set to be relocated following a successful consultation described as "real and effective" by a local Liberal Democrat Councillor.
Proposals to the council's Executive Board following the consultation over the future of day centres will recommend that the Otley centre "is relocated to premises which are fit for purpose and have the option of expanding from one day per week".
Cllr Colin Campbell (Lib Dem, Otley and Yeadon) said:
"I'm really glad to welcome the proposals being brought to the council's Executive Board next week, it proves the council was listening to the local community and councillors. Otley needs and deserves facilities to care for our older residents. The civic centre needs refurbishing and was not really suitable for day centre services. Indeed many local people had to travel outside Otley to access day centre services.
"The proposal to move the facility to another location, probably the Spring Gardens home for older people, will enable more and better services to be delivered to local people, including those who previously had no choice but to go outside Otley. It will also mean more investment in Otley. My colleagues and I welcome the outcome of the consultation and urge the Executive Board to accept the recommendations."
