CCTV operation hailed a success in Otley and Yeadon

A report to councillors in Otley and Yeadon has highlighted the success of last years CCTV operation.
Cameras have in the last year provided evidence which led to 13 arrests at the scene of criminal offences. In addition evidence has been seized by the police to make further arrests in relation to 67 other criminal offences.
Over £18,000 is being invested this year to support CCTV in Otley and Yeadon. For the current year mobile CCTV will be deployed to areas of concern via local tasking groups and neighbourhood policing teams. They will gather evidence of crime and anti social behaviour in 'hot spot' areas not covered by CCTV cameras.
Cllr Ryk Downes (Lib Dem, Otley and Yeadon) said:
"The figures show that the few people who commit crimes in Otley and Yeadon are being caught. CCTV not only helps to reduce crime but also the fear of crime.
"We will continue to fund the maintenance and monitoring of the cameras over the next year as well as working with the police and residents on how best to use mobile CCTV."
