Horror as Horsforth green space is stripped bare
Councillor calls for urgent enquiry after a conservation area is stripped of its trees by a developer.
The land located between New Road Side and Rein Road in Horsforth is part of Newlay Conservation Area. Previously untouched and populated with mature trees it was a haven for wildlife. Local councillors were informed yesterday that a large number of trees have been removed by a developer.
Cllr Brian Cleasby (Lib Dem, Horsforth) said:
"I was contacted by the secretary of Newlay Conservation Society who described this as a "rape" on the landscape. I am in total agreement and I have asked for an urgent enquiry into how this could have happened.
"My fellow ward councillors and I will not rest until we get to the bottom of this."
