Cllr David Hollingsworth (Lib Dem, Burmantofts & Richmond Hill) will be moving a motion at Wednesdays meeting of Leeds City Council (16 September 2009) calling on the Council to support the CAMRA campaign to keep the brewing of Tetley's cask ales in Leeds
Cllr Hollingsworth said "To move the brewing of Tetley's traditional ales to Northampton, as Carlsberg are proposing, is clearly ridiculous and would produce a completely different beer. CAMRA's petition does not call for Carlsberg Tetley to abandon their plans to close the existing brewery - although that would be a solution, but they have a choice if they choose to do so. They could develop a new brewery elsewhere in Leeds, using the same resources, or they could transfer the brewing to another brewery in Leeds. Either way the Council should make clear its support for keeping Tetley's Cask Ales in Leeds.
"I have had indications of support from members of all groups across the Council and I am hopeful that the motion will receive unanimous support."
