Major health boost for Headingley

August 28, 2009 12:00 AM

St Michaels Court, an office block in Headingley is to be transformed into an NHS primary care centre and pharmacy.

The NHS plans will include the merger of three existing GP centres, a pharmacy and a specialist stroke recovery unit with car parking. A planning application has been submitted to Leeds City Council for the change of use of the building, details of which are now available for public viewing.

The four storey building, once occupied by BT has been vacant for a year now and local Headingley councillors James Monaghan and Martin Hamilton are in full support of the plans.

Cllr Martin Hamilton (Lib Dem, Headingley) said:

"We really welcome these plans for what will be a state of the art doctor's surgery. It is great to see this building being put to good use, rather than being kept empty.

Cllr James Monaghan (Lib Dem, Headingley) added:

"We are in the process of arranging a drop-in session, so local residents will be able to see the plans in full and discuss them with us in more detail."
