The popular garden waste collection service will be rolled out to more properties in the Burmantofts and Richmond Hill area in time for the peak summer months.
Letters have been sent to households eligible for the scheme with more details and advice on how to best use the bin. Grass cuttings, hedge clippings, leaves, dead house and bedding plants, windfall fruit, weeds, twigs and small branches can all be put into the brown bins.
The first collection is scheduled for July 20th 2009, bins are being delivered this week. Bins will be emptied every two weeks until December and every month until March. Those who do not want a brown bin are able to opt-out those properties who would like a brown bin can request one providing they are within a collection zone.
Cllr David Hollingsworth (Lib Dem, Burmantofts and Richmond Hill) said:
"I hope everyone in my ward who wants a brown bin is able to get hold of one. This is a great service that the council is providing. I would encourage everyone to take part in the scheme and do their bit for the environment."
