Lord Mayor Judith Elliot gave a civic welcome at the Hyde Park Faith Forum, a meeting for faith leaders in Hyde Park and Woodhouse.
The meeting was the first of its kind for the Hyde Park and Woodhouse Ward. The ward has a diverse population with both long standing and new faith organisations present in the area providing lots of support to local communities.
The purpose of the Faith Leaders' Lunch was for groups to meet together and network, share experiences and look at ways of how they could work more closely together, particularly supporting young people.
The event, organised by Cllr Ewens, brought together faith leaders in Hyde Park & Woodhouse and was facilitated by Together for Peace (T4P), a local Leeds based community development charity.
Cllr Penny Ewens (Lib Dem, Hyde Park and Woodhouse) said:
"I feel strongly that these groups should work together. I am glad we have been able to establish a forum which will meet regularly to tackle any emerging issues and promote the peaceful relations which exist in the ward.
"At the moment there is some fantastic work going on with children and young people such as homework clubs, youth groups and sports clubs run by various faith and community groups. But we need to re-organise how we do things and join groups together so that people from different cultural and religious backgrounds can spend time together. This is something I will strongly encourage my fellow councillors to set up within their wards."
