Last Thursday night (02/07/09) Leeds City Council's 'Inner North West Area Committee' voted to appoint Cllr Ben Chastney (Lib Dem, Weetwood) as its Chair for 2009/10. Amongst Cllr Chastney's responsibilities will be chairing the regular area committee meetings which attract up to 100 local residents at locations across inner north west Leeds.
Cllr Chastney said "I'm very happy to accept the role as Chair of the Committee and hope I will be able to build on the reputation it has as the most open and busy Area Committee in the City. Local residents have the right to be heard and Inner North West has always encouraged their active participation. Their views are important to both myself and my colleagues as we work to bring better services to local people."
Cllr James Monaghan (Lib Dem, Headingley), last years Chair of the Area Committee said "I'm sure Ben will do a great job of Chair. As the new Executive Board member for Environmental Services it would not have been possible for me to continue to give the job the attention it deserves, but I will make sure I continue to support the work of the Area Committee and its new Chair.
