Councillor David Hollingsworth welcomes a planning decision which will help reduce crime in his ward.
Residents in Cross Green have won the battle to gate-off their back alleyway after it was used by burglars to break into their homes.
Planning permission has been granted and new gates will give residents sole access to the alleyway. It is hoped this measure will drastically cut crime in the area.
The scheme has been jointly funded by the East (Inner) Area Committee and Leeds Community Safety at a cost of just under £10,000.
Cllr Hollingsworth (Lib Dem, Burmantofts and Richmond Hill) said:
"As ward councillors we have been working with residents to get these alley gates installed. We are all extremely pleased that installation of the gates will begin this month.
"People should be able to feel safe in their own homes. I hope these gates will make a difference."
